Not sure what level you fit in for our classes? Never heard of a swing out? Can't figure out your East Coast from your West Coast? No problem! We've got a class for you. Read on below to see what class fits your best.

Levels

Beginner Swing - 1 week course

  • Triple time basic in closed and open
  • Transitions between the two
  • Arch turn
  • Loop turn
  • Side Pass

Note: If you don't feel comfortable after the course, take it over again next week! No one learns swing in an hour! Keep taking the basic class until you feel fairly comfortable with the moves in the class and during the social afterwards.

Swing I - 2 Month (8 week) Rotation

  • Triple time basic
  • Most basic turns (Arch turn, loop turn, side pass, tuck turn, and free turns)
  • Getting in and out of The Cuddle
  • Basic Side-by-Side Charleston
  • Single-Count swing
  • Basic Lindy Hop
  • Getting in and out of Lindy Hop (Send out & Circle to Close

Swing II - 2 Month (8 week) Rotation
To graduate, you should be EXTREMELY comfortable performing:

  • Lindy Hop turns (Inside, outside, and basket patterns)
  • 6-count Lindy patterns (turns and side pass)
  • More advanced East Coast moves (corkscrew, double turns, etc)
  • Lindy Hop Connection, Frame, and Balance Drills
  • Much improved familiar with Lindy Hop in general

Important Note:
Swing I & Swing II are two month rotations. You must take both months (Month "A" & "B") of classes before being eligible for the next level of classes (unless you have Instructor permission). If you learned swing elsewhere and feel that you should be eligible, ask one of the teachers beforehand to get approval. Remember, there are TWO MONTHS... don't just finish the first month and try move on or you'll miss a BUNCH of material.

Freestyle Swing - Constant Rotation (4 week courses)
Topics covered in Freestyle Swing are up to the instructor and are considered more advanced topics and should only be undertaken by students who have completed both Swing I and Swing II. Students should be comfortable dancing East coast and Lindy Hop in a social setting to all speeds of music.
Topics may include:

  • Connection, Balance, and Frame
  • Musicality (Phrasing & Freezes)
  • Variations on Lindy Hop (swivels, rock step swing-outs, variations on Lidny Components)
  • Intro to Balboa
  • Intro to Shag
  • Charleston Moves (more moves, Tandem, and 20's)
