Let’s play with turns! We’ll explore fun turn variations while digging into the foundations that make them work—balance, connection, and rotational momentum. Learn how to stay grounded and in control through faster, more dynamic movement, whether you’re leading or following.
Session 2: Beginner/Intermediate Lindy (6 - 7:30 pm)
Building a Better Swingout
Let’s get back to the heart of Lindy Hop—the swingout! We’ll strengthen the foundation of your swingout and explore the technique that makes it feel smooth, dynamic, and effortless. Whether you’re polishing what you already know or building more confidence, this class will help your swingouts feel better from both sides of the partnership.
Dance with Live Music from The Dirty River Jazz Band (8 - 10:30 pm)
Join us for a special Swing Shift with live music from an amazing local band, The Dirty River Jazz Band. Band break will feature a Halloween-themed Collegiate Shag performance by The Austin Shag Jam. Live music funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Instructors: Robin Carlson & JErry Foote
Robin Carlson & Jerry Foote are the Directors of Dance Force Productions, an award-winning professional dance company in Houston, Texas which provides dance entertainment & DJing for corporations, charity galas, fashion shows, and private parties. Their diverse styles of dance and their vast experience in Entertainment add a unique flair to their Lindy Hop dancing.
They teach all levels of Swing for Houston Swing Dance Society and were also the Teacher Coordinators for 4 years, with a focus on training instructors in warm-ups, cueing, coaching, and being knowledgeable of the technical aspects of movement to music. Their students enjoy receiving sound information on how to improve their technique, with hands-on coaching, in a fun environment.
They have taught workshops for Atlanta, Beantown, ILHC, Lindyfest, Big D in Dallas, San Antonio, Nacogdoches, NYLE, as well as local worshops for HSDS which usually include Aerials classes!
Robin & Jerry are also professional Dancers/Choreographers who have opened for One Republic, Maroon 5, Taylor Dayne, Los Lonely Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Asleep at the Wheel, Gloria Gaynor, Jeanie Tracey, Martha Wash, and many other well-known artists. They have been the Swing Choreographers & Lead Dancers for Houston’s Urban Nutcracker going on their 8th year. Their love of dance and their love of God continue to keep them going strong in their teaching, creating, and performing. They can’t wait to share it with you!
